2 ivory traffickers arrested
Gabon, 16 Mar 2016Good work of Conservation Justice team, well organized network of wildlife traffickers was crushed in Gabon after an ivory trafficker of Benin nationality was arrested while trying to sell two leopard skins. The joint operation of AALF, wildlife officers and gendarmerie was then followed by a house search and more contraband was found, including 2 ivory tusks. Later he revealed two of his accomplices, and one of them was immediately arrested too.

Cameroon, 3 Mar 2016A trafficker arrested with 3 elephant tails and three feet of elephants. Frisco Aimé and Serge were in the field coordinating the arrest with the police. We were supposed to get Ivory as well but the trafficker apparently sold his recent stock a few days before to a Nigerian.

During interrogation, their phone rang as their collaborator asked for the money from the deal. He was then lured and arrested. The traffickers took the team to one of the killed elephants - inside the Karuma reserve!

5 ivory traffickers behind bars
Benin, 18 Feb 20165 traffickers, one of them former Head of the Gendarmerie, with 4 tusks were arrested in a joint operation of Judicial Police, wildlife officers and AALF-B. This was the first operation of AALF-B at the north-east end of the country in W National Park. The legal team is working hard to keep all of the traffickers behind bars.

Senegal, 10 Feb 20163 ivory traffickers were arrested in the centre of Dakar, Senegal, in a joint operation of the Brigade of Urban Security and SALF. The 3 dealers brought their contraband from their carved Ivory workshop to a restaurant, where they were arrested red handed during an attempt to sell 271 (!) pieces of elephant ivory.
