In 2014 a Vietnamese ivory trafficker and his collaborator were arrested and accused of organizing, the largest shipment of illegal ivory in West African history of 3.8 tonnes. In October 2015, they were prosecuted to 22 and 24 months in jail. The ivory was destined to go to Vietnam via Malaysia. The operation was made possible thanks to the Mixed Unit Container Control, headed by the Central Office for Repression of Illicit Traffic of Drugs and whitening (OCTRIDB). The TALFF Project supported the authorities in monitoring this case and flying in a Vietnamese translator to court hearings.
