2 ivory traffickers, one of them repeat offender, arrested with 2 tusks

2 ivory traffickers, one of them repeat offender, arrested with 2 tusks weighing 20kg. They are part of an international trafficking ring based close to the border between Central African Republic and Cameroon and operating between the two countries. The Kenzou town serves as a collection point for the ivory that leaves the CAR, arrives Kenzou and it is then transported to bigger cities including Bertoua, Douala and Yaounde. One of the traffickers had been arrested in March 2019 by the gendarmerie with over 250 kg of ivory seized and released without any charges brought against him. Wildlife officials who have competence over the management of such cases were never involved in the matter bringing to question what happened with the dozens of ivory tusks seized. He had also been arrested with ivory tusks in Gamboula in the East Region and released with no charges made.
